प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी 10 अगस्त 2021 को उत्तर प्रदेश के महोबा ज़िले में LPG कनेक्शन सौंपकर "उज्ज्वला 2.0" (प्रधानमंत्री उज्ज्वला योजना-PMUY) का शुभारंभ करेंगे। एक जमा-मुक्त LPG कनेक्शन के साथ, उज्ज्वला 2.0 लाभार्थियों को पहली रिफिल और हॉटप्लेट मुफ्त प्रदान करेगी। उज्जवला 2.0 LPG तक प्रधानमंत्री के सार्वभौमिक पहुंच के दृष्टिकोण को प्राप्त करने में मदद करेगी। 1 जनवरी 2021 तक भारत में प्रधानमंत्री उज्ज्वला योजना के साथ 28.74 करोड़ LPG उपभोक्ता हैं। 2016 में लॉन्च उज्ज्वला 1.0 के दौरान BPL परिवारों की 5 करोड़ महिला सदस्यों को LPG कनेक्शन उपलब्ध कराने का लक्ष्य रखा गया था। इसके बाद योजना का विस्तार अप्रैल 2018 में सात और श्रेणियों (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, सबसे पिछड़ा वर्ग, चाय बागान, वनवासी, द्वीप समूह) से महिला लाभार्थियों को शामिल करने के लिए किया गया था। साथ ही लक्ष्य को संशोधित कर 8 करोड़ LPG कनेक्शन कर दिया गया। लक्ष्य तिथि से सात माह पूर्व अगस्त 2019 में यह लक्ष्य प्राप्त कर लिया गया।
